Researchers at University Oxford say that teenagers respond properly 2 hours later than older adults.
A small trial has been carried out at Monkseaton High School where their start time was moved from 8:50am to 10:00am. During the trial the percentage of pupils who gained 5 good grades went from 34% to around 50%.
A larger trial will now take place with around 32,000 GCSE pupils in over 100 schools being assessed to see whether a later start to their school day will lead to better grades.
Scientists speculate that mental health & wellbeing may also improve.
So it turns out we weren’t all lazy teenagers for lying in for so long at the weekends!!
